"Von
Madrid zum Himmel ..." so pflegen die
Bewohner Madrids, der Hauptstadt von Spanien seit 1562, ihre Stadt
zu charakterisieren. Ziemlich genau im Zentrum der iberischen
Halbinsel auf einem Hochplateau gelegen, zeichnet sich Madrid
durch ein Klima mit heissen Sommern und relativ kalten Wintern aus.
Natürlich ist Madrid eine
monumentale Stadt, zu den Höhepunkten eines Besuchs zählen
sicherlich das mittelalterliche Zentrum, das hauptsächlich in der
Zeit des Habsburg-Imperiums entstand, und das grossartige
Kunstmuseum, "El Prado". Das kulturelle Angebot ist, wie
von einer Hauptstadt dieser Dimensionen nicht anders zu erwarten,
gewaltig.
Aber Madrid ist auch eine
ausgesprochen lebendige Stadt, mit Modelokalen, Konzert-Cafés,
Diskotheken und einem Nachtleben, das rund um die Uhr dauert. Man
sollte nicht überrascht sein, wenn man um 4 Uhr morgens plötzlich
in einem Verkehrsstau steckt. Und die wenigsten Menschen sind um
diese Zeit auf dem Weg zur Arbeit ...
